TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY (on a Wednesday)

It's not always easy, but it's always worth it!

Momming is hard but you know what's harder? Momming when you are overweight, tired all the time, can't keep up with your kids - now THAT is hard. Not being able to play catch with your kids or chase them around on the playground...that is really hard. Sitting on the sidelines, watching life pass by is hard too.
.
I'll keep it real and say working out everyday and eating healthy can be hard too and I fail miserably sometimes, but I'd rather fail trying than not at all!
.
As each day passes and I witness the milestones my kids reach, it's a constant reminder of how fast time moves. We only get this one chance at life and I made a promise to myself, to my kids, that I'd at least try. I'm not perfect, and not many things come natural to me (I'm a little awkward 😂), but I'm going to try damn hard and just try to outdo the me from yesterday. That way I know I'm giving my family the best version of me and giving myself my health to keep up with them!
.
I guess what I'm saying is...everything in this life is "hard." My challenge for you is to choose the hard that gives you life, health, happiness, confidence, energy, endurance, and overall well-being...because then at least the hard will be worth it! 🙌🏻

Free 5-Day Abs & Booty Challenge!

Bikinis & Shorts.... Two things I love and 2 things that give me the most anxiety as I approach summer....

Let me tell you, over the years I have gotten MUCH better about feeling comfortable with my body over the summer months. Up until not that long ago, I have always been self-conscious about how my legs look in shorts or how my tummy looks in a bikini. I have always been one to set new year's resolutions to finally drop the the weight, or to tone up, and then before I know it, it's getting warmer and I am not even close to reaching those goals. And then I am left wearing baggy clothes, wearing jeans even though I am sweating to death, and covering myself up at the lake all because I don't physically feel confident with myself. I have spent WAY too many years feeling that way! I used to try crash diets, diet pills, over-exercising, counting calories - basically anything quick - leading up to weekends like Memorial Day or the 4th of July in hopes I could drop 5-10 pounds before putting on that swimsuit. And every time I would either drop some weight and immediately put it back on over the holiday weekends, fail miserably or be HANGRY all the time (which is no way to live), or just give up, put on my jeans and hoodie, and sweat my face off. All of that is horrible, by the way.
.
Over the last few years I have learned that there is a much better, easier and WAY healthier way to drop a few pounds and I want to share that with YOU! I am inviting you to join me on Monday, May 22nd for my 5-Day Abs & Booty challenge! This will be 5 days of workouts focused on your butt and gut, healthy recipes, daily accountability & support, fun, and PRIZES!!

.
2) Stay on top of my water (I've been slacking lately) 💦
.
3) Stop sneaking leftover Easter candy  🍫
.
4) Tone up by working out 5-6 days/week 🏋
.
5) Be more diligent with my meal plan each week and refrain from late night snacking 😬
.
6) Fit into a pair of jeans I've been wanting to wear for 5 years... 😳

.
Today kicked off week 1 of my Bikini Bootcamp 👙 and I couldn't be more excited! My online fitness community is ready to roll this month and I am looking forward to some amazing transformations this month! 👊🏻
.
Side note: I've always cringed taking my before pics because I always tend to focus on my flaws instead of what's good! And honestly, I've never really smiled for a "before" pic either but today was different! I know I have work to do, but today I focused on how I felt over just my physical appearance and couldn't help but smile! 😄 I'm alive, I'm healthy, I have energy, and I have so much to be grateful for in this life! 🌟 Focus on the good and suddenly the bad isn't so bad! 👊🏻

A Little Self-Love

"A mother who radiates self-love and self-acceptance actually vaccinates her daughter against low self-esteem." ~ Naomi Wolf
.
.
.
.
.
I like to think that I have a healthy body image overall, and really strive to show that (especially to my daughter) by making healthy choices and working out as much as I can. But, to be 100% honest, there are definitely days I struggle. And before I continue, let me just say that I am DAMN proud of this body and what it's done, created, and endured in my 32 years!!
.
I don't know why I was thinking about this today, but for some reason I had a flashback to myself as a young girl, probably 8 years old, sitting down and looking at my belly hanging over my pants. I don't really remember when I started caring about that, but I remember that specific moment and thinking to myself that I needed to lose weight. At 8 years old!!! It's just crazy how at such a young age I was feeling insecure about my belly. I remember joking with friends saying I hadn't lost my baby weight....like, from when I was born?!! For one, who says that? Thinking about that really made me realize how much of an impact things out of my control can have on my kid's self image. Magazines, tv, friends at school, family, etc. - there's just so much pressure to be "skinny" or to fit the image of what you are supposed to look like as a young girl.
.
Since that time when I was 8, I have always thought I needed to lose weight. I have compared myself to others thinking "I wish I had skinny legs like hers" or "I will never be a size 2 like her"... As a kid, I was made fun of for being "chunky" and really, it's had a lasting impact on me.
.
The good news is, once I had kids and realized all that this body can DO, those insecurities left. I am not saying I still don't wish my tummy was tighter, or that my legs had less cellulite, but what I am saying is that I don't dwell on it, or wish for someone else's body. Instead, I strive to work on MY body, and make it the best it can be according to MY standards, and not society's or some asshole's that made fun of me on the playground.
.
My goal as a mom is to just show my kids that you can love yourself no matter what you look like, the size of your clothes, or the things you are interested in. To love yourself if you are athletic or not, or funny or not, or artistic or not. To love yourself for being YOU and all that you are. To only compete with yourself and to never judge someone else for being different or having different priorities than you. To really, just be you. Un-apologetically, un-censored, and so totally and uniquely YOU. The world needs more of that for sure and if there is one thing I show my kids, it will be to follow your heart and not worry about what anyone else thinks.
.
Love yourself, take care of yourself, and enjoy the life you get to live each and every day. <3

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY

That girl in those pictures is me, obvi, from when I was in college in Eau Claire. :) I transferred to UWEC from Arizona State to finish up the last couple years of my degree, which eventually happened, just not how I had planned.

You see, back when I was younger I was always taught to work hard, get good grades, and go to college. I mean, it’s what you are supposed to do so that you can be a successful adult and get a good job. So, I did that.

In highschool I was an (almost) straight A student and always did well in my classes….but that is not because I studied all the time or anything like that. I just did my homework and never had to really try much harder beyond that. School just came easy to me. Plus, I really liked school. I enjoyed my classes and was involved in choir, theater, hockey, student council - I was just really into the extracurricular stuff and loved staying busy and active.

When I went off to college I was so excited because I really looked forward to getting out of Owatonna. I have wanderlust and love traveling, going to new places, and exploring. So, going all the way to Arizona was pretty freaking sweet to me at the time. I mean, my dorm brochure showed a picture of my building with a pool outside of it!! This Minnesota girl was ready for year-round sun and warm weather!

I spent 2 years at ASU and in that 2 years realized I am not as smart as I thought I was! HA! I actually HAD to study, which I had no idea how to even do that, and I slowly started slipping away academically. I am sure it was a combo of being in a completely new place, having complete freedom to do whatever I wanted, and realizing that I had no interest in a majority of my classes. I wasn’t excited about school anymore like I had always been and it was weird.

After 2 years in Arizona I transferred to UW-Eau Claire to be closer to home….not TOO close though, haha. It was in Eau Claire that I broke up with my long-time boyfriend, met my now husband, bought and tried my first ever Beachbody program (P90X), got suspended from college, and eventually graduated. WHEW!!

But let me back it up to that part about getting suspended. I am pretty sure that was one of the lowest points in my life. The girl that always got good grades, was involved in all that extra stuff, sucked at college. Like, REALLY sucked. I just didn’t have any passion for it! But I was so ashamed to admit that back then because college was what I was supposed to do. And I didn't want to let anyone down. So, I toughed it out, took winter and summer classes, and eventually graduated with my bachelor’s in Public Relations. The really funny thing about all this is that at the time I was suspended, I bought P90X. I saw the infomercial for it about a hundred times and finally decided to get it. Annnnd I am pretty sure the longest I have lasted doing that workout is about 2 weeks…that damn yoga!!! haha Little did I know I would be one day working as a coach! Kind of crazy how life leaves these clues for you when you least expect it!

After finally graduating I imagined myself living in a big city, working for a marketing firm, with an office high up with a big window overlooking the city. As you can see that did NOT happen…and I am 1-million percent okay with that!

There have been so many times leading up to now when I thought I was a complete failure or had no direction with my life because I lacked passion in what I was doing. I started thinking that was normal as an adult but I am so thankful I took a step outside my comfort zone and went for something completely “unconventional.” Sure, I still work really hard every day, but at least my hard work is going towards MY business and it’s something I love doing. I am able to be here for my kids when they need me and I can build my business around them.

I truly believe life leads you down a path of “stuff" to prepare you for what you are really destined for. Of course, we can ignore certain signs on the path, take pit-stops, or wrong turns, but that just means we were’t ready for that next destination yet.

If any part of my story spoke to you or if you can relate to anything I have gone through let me know by commenting below or sending me an email to dh.health.fitness@gmail.com. I am passionate about paying this forward to people who just want more out of life! To people who are looking for an opportunity to build a business, work from home, have more freedom, and dream BIG dreams! <3

The Best BIG ASS SALAD this side of the Mississippi!

Alright so, this salad is DELISH! A week ago I finished a program called the Ultimate Reset and during that program you basically are eating to rid and heal your body from all the toxins you consume through food, the air we breath, and everything else we are exposed to during our life. To do this you eliminate all processed foods, dairy, meat, and are eating completely vegan by the end. During the 3 weeks of the program I came across this salad recipe and I have had it almost every day since... and I am not even doing the Ultimate Reset anymore! :) It's just the perfect combo of veggies, flavor, crunch and is so refreshing to eat!

Before I go on and on about how GOOD this salad is I am going to give you the recipe to try it for yourself! I will warn you there's a little prep-work for this one but once you get through  that, you can portion it out and have your lunch covered for the week!

**Although I was not eating meat during the Ultimate Reset I have added chicken to this salad since **

How to prep your chicken (I usually prep 4-5 breasts at a time):

* Preheat oven to 375 degrees
* Cut off the extra fat from each chicken breast
* Spread a little EVOO on each chicken breast and season with your favorite seasoning (I do Himalayan Salt and No-Salt Garlic & Herb seasoning)
* Add chicken to a baking sheet and bake for 35 minutes

After cooking I let the chicken cool and chop for my salads for the week. I also use this chicken to eat in wraps, with veggies and rice, healthy pizza, etc.

Veggies to Dice (1 serving size):

* 1/4 Cup of Red Pepper
* 1/4 Cup of Jicama
* 1/2 Medium Cucumber
* 1/2 Medium Carrot (shredded)
* 1/4 Cup of Pico de Gallo or Diced Tomato

I usually cut up enough veggies for the week and they stay fresh for about 5 days.

Pumpkin Seeds (Makes 8 servings):

* 2 Cups of Raw Green Pumpkin Seeds (without shells)
* Preheat oven to 400 degrees
* Arrange pumpkin seeds in a single layer on the baking sheet.
* Bake for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until very aromatic and slightly browned. Be careful not to let burn!

Creamy Garlic Salad Dressing (Makes 10 servings):

* 1/2 Cup EVOO
* 1/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
* 3 Cloves of Garlic, crushed
* 3 Tbsp. fresh Lemon Juice
* 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh Parsley
* 1 tsp. Himalayan Salt
* 1/2 tsp. Dijon Mustard
1 Tbsp. Raw Honey or Pure Maple Syrup

Place all the ingredients above into a food processor or blender - I used my Ninja! ;) Blend until smooth and store in the refrigerator. If dressing solidifies when cold, hold at room temperature for 30 minutes. Stir before serving.

How to Assemble the Salad:

In most produce sections, you can find bulk or bagged mixed baby greens, which may include lettuces, baby kale, mizuna, radicchio, etc. These are perfect for this salad!

* 1 Diced (pre-cooked) chicken breast (I sometimes just use 1/2 a breast depending on the size and it's plenty)
* 1/4 medium Carrot
* 1/2 medium Cucumber
* 1/2 Red Pepper
* 1/2 medium tomato (or 1/4 cup of Pico de Gallo)
* 1/4 cup of Jicama
* 2 Tbsp. Creamy Garlic Dressing

To easily mix all the ingredients add them to a bowl with a lid and shake! Enjoy! :)

And remember.....

Feel free to SHARE this post! Make sure to comment below if you try this salad! I want to know what you think! <3
